ADA: A Working Partnership

Signed into law in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is widely recognized as the primary piece of civil rights legislation for people with disabilities, yet it remains complex and confusing to many. This practical course covers the basics of the ADA, with an emphasis on its employment provisions. Embracing employers as allies in job placement efforts, this course will identify and highlight the fundamental principles of the ADA while offering a practical approach to ADA compliance. Through a hands-on interactive process, learn when and how the ADA can effectively support your job seeking and job retention efforts.

Some of the topics to be addressed include:

  • The definition of a person with a disability under the ADA;
  • The five titles of the ADA and how they are enforced;
  • What employment actions are covered by the ADA;
  • How the ADA is similar to and distinct from other employment laws;
  • The process of determining reasonable accommodation and undue hardship;
  • The delicate issue of disclosure under the ADA;
